Food on Safari.

Is it okay to eat salads, and fruits and drink water?

Apart from tap water, which is not safe to drink the rest yes, you can consume. Taking a healthy diet will let you get the fullest of Safari and keep you away from any medical ailments. So whenever you are in Tanzania make sure you eat all kinds of fruits as they are generally safe.

Can special diets be accommodated?

This is another  Tanzania Safari Faq question, The answer is yes. We usually prepare a special diet for those who inform us about their specialty in the diet. Whether you are a vegetarian, vegan, or require gluten-free or diabetic-friendly please make us aware in advance and we’ll easily arrange it at your convenience. 

Are there a lot of bugs in Tanzania?

Yes, just like many tropical countries, Tanzania is also known for having many bugs, insects, and mosquitoes. As safeguard measures, all hotels and tented camp rooms are sprayed with insect repellents frequently. We also advise our guests to carry insect repellents while traveling to Tanzania.

  What’s the food like on the safari?

In Tanzania, you expect to have delicious cuisines blended with Swahili flavors with the best western, Arabic, and Indian cuisines. Our Chef will prepare for you personalized tastes of Vegetarian, Vegan, Dairy-free, Gluten-free, and other special diets.

What can I expect to eat & drink on safari?

Usually, you will have a buffet “British” as breakfast which will include omelets, potatoes, bacon/sausage (which is more like a hot dog), toast, cereals, etc. During Lunch time you are expected to have cold chicken, yogurt, juice, hard-boiled eggs, raw veggies, and some kind of baked cake/cookie. For your Dinner meat, potatoes/rice and vegetarian food are served.

The varieties of wildlife are quite similar in most of the national parks in Tanzania. In most of Tanzania’s National parks, you  will see Wildebeests, Elephants Lions, Giraffes, Leopards , Hippopotamus, Zebra, small mammals like cheetah, antelopes, etc 

What is the Great Migration?

This is a natural phenomenon whereby over two million wild beasts, Zebra are moving across Serengeti to Masai Mara in Kenya in search of Pastures, water, and breeding.

This Great Migration in Tanzania can be witnessed all year round as the wildlife migrates in a circular motion around the Serengeti National Park.

What to Pack?

What clothes should I bring on the safari and what items are required for the safari?

Answer

The Clothes required for Tanzania Safari are:

  • One light jacket
  • One fleece
  • Three pairs of safari pants (one of them zip-off)
  • One pair shorts
  • One long-sleeve shirts (light,breathable)
  • Four short-sleeve shirts
  • One dress (for nice dinners)
  • A set of pyjamas
  • A pair of hiking boots
  • A pair of sandals (or Keens)
  • Underwear
  • Sports bra (for women)
  • Three pairs of socks
  • Sun hat
  • Swimsuit
  • Sunglasses
  •  Vaccination card: You must take the necessary vaccinations and keep the vaccination cards for your destination a few months before the trip.
  •  First-aid kit: Please make sure you include all pills which you usually take. Don’t forget to pack basic medicine like Paracetamol, an antihistamine for reactions to insect bites, diarrhea medication for food poisoning, and cough drops. Consult your Personal physician for any medical requirements which he may suggest for you.
  •  Insect repellent: In Tanzania, there are varieties of insects, bugs, and mosquitoes especially if you stay in tents. Although are frequently sprayed with insect repellents, carrying yours is not a bad idea. Don’t forget to carry anti-malaria pills, and other necessities to stay safe.
  •  Electronics: Carry your Camera, portable power bank, binoculars, batteries, and solar torch. etc
  •  Toiletries: Shampoo, toothpaste, shower gel, tampons for ladies, toilet papers, and other requirements
  •  Cash: US dollars are accepted in most Tanzanian restaurants and hotels some shops accept only Tanzanian Shillings. So you must exchange your currency for Tanzanian Shillings and carry some cash around in the country.
  •  Other Travel Documents: Visa, Travel insurance, passport, and other travel documents.

How far in advance should I book my safari?

It is advisable to book your international flight tickets at least three months in advance in order to get some discounts as well as a getting a preferred seat. If you are planning your trip in the peak season, it is advisable to book your safari to Tanzania at least nine months before.

Can I use a credit card to pay?

Yes, you can use credit cards to pay your bills in big hotels or restaurants for small hotels and lodges you must have local currents . Tell your guide to show you where are ATM machines so that you can get local currency with your Visa or MasterCard.

 What about Tanzania Safari Tips?

Tanzania Safari Tipping is not compulsory but customary. There is no fixed amount of tip to give out but it all depends on the level of satisfaction you have received from the services. But is not bad if your tipping could is like this :

  • Safari guide(s) US $10 per day;
  • Cook US $7,
  • Camp staff US $3 $5 per day.

VISA

Do I need a visa to enter Tanzania?

It costs around $50 US cash for non-US citizens and $100 for US citizens. Where you will get your visa on arrival at the airport.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

The various documents needed to enter Tanzania are listed below in the Tanzania Travel Requirements :

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Two Blank Passport pages
  • A Tourist Travel Visa for entry
  • Yellow fever vaccinations are required if traveling from a yellow fever-endemic country. You can consult your physician for any other vaccine requirements.

What Vaccines And Medication Should I Take?

The following vaccinations are recommended under WHO guidelines before visiting Tanzania:

  • hepatitis A/hepatitis B,
  • typhoid,
  • cholera,
  • yellow fever,

  • measles,
  • Mumps and rubella (MMR).

What immunizations/shots are required?

The following immunization/shots are required before you enter Tanzania:

  •  Tetanus – is good for 10/years
  •  Polio Booster
  •  Malaria meds (tabs)

You can consult your personal physician for any other immunization that you may need as per your health conditions and requirements.

Can I take my children on a safari?

Yes, you can surely bring your children on Safari. But it must come to your awareness that most of the lodges are allowing the minimum age of 4. Please make sure you present the age of your kids earlier to our Safari Advisor for planning purposes.

Will I stay in tents or lodges?

Tanzania Safari holidays offer a variety of accommodations for you. Whether you stay at tents or lodges depends on the type of packages you have purchased like luxury safaris, budget safaris, or a standard. It all depends on your budget.

What size are your safari groups?

Our join group safari usually takes from 4 to 6 persons per vehicle. While private tour styles are taking a maximum of 3 persons per vehicle.
