The fourth-largest national park in Tanzania that offers great wildlife and sightings all year round.
Mkata flood plain which is at the center of Mikumi is an open horizon plain which is known for its abundant wildlife. The Vegetation of this plain resembles Serengeti’s plain that’s why it is known as The Little Serengeti. During the Dry season the waterholes at the Mkata floodplain attract many animals like a hippo, huge herds of elephants and buffalo.

When to go to Mikumi Park
At Mikumi, you are guaranteed to spot eland, the world's largest antelope, greater kudu, and sable antelope can be found in the miombo woodland-covered foothills of the mountain uluguru.

Game drives.
Mikumi will offer you a tremendous game drive at their natural habitats some of the prominent features to seek after in the game drive include the artificial hippo pools filled with huge schools of hippos swimming. These hippos pools from time to time attract other animals like giraffes, elephants, elands, zebras, hippos, lions, and many more.
Birding at the park.
Mikumi has over 500 species of Birds. These bird species include migratory birds, savanna birds, water birds, and many more. Some of the local Zanzibar red bishop, yellow-throated longclaw, lilac-breasted roller, bateleurs eagle, and open billed stork among the rest.
Picnics
The spectacular landscape of Mikumi offers the best site for a picnic, some of the things to do in the picnics include having meals, games, and many more.

Walking Safari is another way to discover Mikumi, This safari will enable you to see the composition of the park in terms of features, wildlife, and other environmental details.
To have a maximum exploration of this hidden gem of Tanzania we advise you to visit during The Dry season, from June to October.
During this time, the vegetation becomes thinner and animals look for water around predictable water sources such as the Mkata River, the hippo pool, and other waterholes.
