7-Day Machame Route
Description
The Machame route, also known as “the Whiskey Route,” is the second most popular choice among climbers. The views, landscapes, and experiences along this route are diverse. Machame Gate, the route’s starting point, is only a 20-minute drive from the Aishi Machame Hotel. Machame Gate, located on Mt. Kilimanjaro’s southern slope, will take you to the summit via an exciting footpath that begins in the tropical forest, continues through all climate zones, and ends in the Arctic desert in the summit area.
The trek’s camps are strategically placed to allow for a smooth and gradual acclimatization transition. The Machame Route meets up with Lemosho and Umbwe at Barranco camp on the third day.
A six-day or seven-day climb is available. The latter is recommended for a smoother acclimatization transition.
